Sunday 7 October 2007

for a week now the graffiti boys and i have been working nights and sleeping days, and i have been sleeping in the office under my table. work on the mural is progressing well, although creative inspiration is indeed hard to come by at 4am in the morning. red bull cures many ills. i'll post photos when i feel less subhuman.

meanwhile, here's something i just finished for ciak. soon to be exhibited at kinokuniya, come by! (clik for series)

Saturday 22 September 2007

my social circle has mostly flown off to laos. separation anxiety!!!!

Monday 17 September 2007

phooo. thats the end of two incredible work weeks. the team's worked 14 days straight, and about 18 hrs a day to see the roadshows and our regular admin/creative schedules through. finally i can roll up my eyebags, finish up some of my own sketches and bring royston for a long stroll.

Sunday 9 September 2007

Wednesday 5 September 2007

damn! another rejected creative. haha.

they wanted something more sleek, gridiron and hiphop. i'll show you the look we went for in the end, later. anyhow, this is now my desktop wallpaper and i'm determined to poach the style for something else. gehhehheh.

Sunday 26 August 2007

best gig ever since the gallbladders, homeclub 24 aug! so many shows over the years, some shitty others brilliant, but every time we get on the stage its brand new. almost everything i love about life is solidified in these moments of cheap strobe lights, sweaty bandmates and the sour smell of adrenaline. from the first drum hit i close my eyes, breathe deep and oh everything is burning, burning.

thanks everyone who came and yelled and bought us too much beer. behold, us in drunken solidarity!

Thursday 23 August 2007

today we played a gig in the sun and i'm burnt across the nose. yesterday i had fever, gurgled deliriously to bird about 10m by 1m, confused the heck out of both of us, and then realised that was the size of a banner i had to design for work.

Friday 17 August 2007

boy are roadshows exhausting. its flattening my youthful exuberance. anyhow, we were at crowbars last night and THIS took home a bronze for illustration! NEURNEURPOOOORK!!!!!

the lentor incident is playing homeclub next friday 7pm, we're opening for serenaide. come by

Wednesday 8 August 2007

the best thing anyone can give me is a piece of art. this one came from tip17 and his graffiti writer friends. aw guys, this is a totally AWESOME, RIPPING piece. i love!!!!!!!!!!!!! they bartered it from a really talented artist called d.lauchengco, who we met at last weekend's pathmarket.

and... happy birthday jielin! the national day baby.

Tuesday 7 August 2007

a pitch for ST engineering's yearbook, awhile ago. is anyone going to crowbars?

Sunday 29 July 2007

drop me an email if you think you want to help me with some crazy ideas. damien, emily and alecia, this is what our beer talk was about, btw!

bird and half my social circle have chased some adventure into laos, and my nights have never been lonelier. i hate the airport when its not me thats going. on the way home i slept on the bus, banged my forehead on the windowsill so violently that its now bruised. looks like poorly applied eye shadow.

o boy, i miss you.

Friday 27 July 2007

mrrr august! i think you'll like this one.

Sunday 22 July 2007

aussie arts organization NOISE (noise.net) are doing some mini documentaries on artists around the world for aussie tv. merrily, i get to be one of them. haha i am FAME SLUT!! and because i am smitten by their cameraman's really rocking facial hair, i volunteered tourguide services. hullo damien! when i am next in australia i will look you up for sure.

tonight, dinner and a movie with min, my old friend from bates. she's leaving singapore soon, and i too am starting to feel the wanderlust. for now i will work my ass off for my country and the slow betterment of its arts culture, then perhaps in a year or so i'll go wherever doors open.

no wing space here.

Sunday 15 July 2007

ultra! fq reports that my site has been deemed 'un-familyfriendly' and blocked by singnet. maybe i used the words 'vagina' or 'racial riot' or 'hunt and kill' one too many times. here's a new project im happily busy with:

popo zhe is back for two weeks, and he already seems to have thrashed his liver.

Wednesday 4 July 2007

aiyoh. would you just lookit this:

funny or not funny! thanks josef, i feel loved and buoyant.

Tuesday 3 July 2007

this is the land where beer is commonly cheaper than coke. too bad we didnt bring the camera out on the snorkelling and island hopping days.

Monday 2 July 2007

hurray, i have mentions in farm.sg and funkbuilders.com. sights and sketches from philippines in abit.

Saturday 23 June 2007

hullo, im at the budget terminal with birdus, hitting philippines in near 4 hrs to meet sam and his film lackeys. will try not to offend any abu sayaffs. back next friday night, xoxo

Saturday 10 June 2007

i found a note i wrote to joyce gallbladder 3 years ago.

hullo sexy, i suddenly missed you. the gallbladders are a person with prosthetic limbs when youre away. (and see, even though i called you sexy im not a lesbian, so your popo butch theory is TRAGICALLY FLAWED). dont you miss playing "hunt and kill joyce"? i just realised today after subtracting 1984 from 2004 that we stopped being kids awhile ago, and that sounds so popo strange. one day we will all get married (not to each other) and stay in a gallbladder neighbourhood and my children will play "hunt and kill joyce's children", or vice versa. kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss come back soon

o boy, how i do dearly miss the days of gallbladder glory.
the inaugural issue of MRRR is finally launched, with the muted fanfare of a whale's flatulence. i present! (click to download your free frivolous read)

Wednesday 30 May 2007

finally the work has begun on rabbit stories. here's a frame out of the project that looks like it will take me forever to finish.

IVE GOT MY DRIVING LICENSE. i been taking my dogs on car rides. next, we'll get a gig van and i'll drive the band around and we'll throw panties out of the windows.

Tuesday 22 May 2007

Monday 21 May 2007

i am pretty fed up with folks asking for free art. sure, if it's your school project i'd be glad to help you out if i have the time. if its for a grand social cause, why not. but sometimes i dont even get credited for these. c'mon, at least give me some exposure for my time right? awhile ago i remember working through the night on illustrations for my hall senior J's (who's a great person!!) fyp project for the singmelody children's choir, but in the end the creative work was credited entirely to the colorist. would it be more obvious if i had CHARITY tattooed on my forehead.

magazines and other random media make grandiose promises of PROMOTING YOUNG LOCAL ARTISTS and then ask me for free work. most of the time, these are smalltime mags and have close to nothing circulation. honestly. if you do want to support local artists, PAY THEM. passion dont buy me no beer, nor hokkien mee, nor chicken rice, nor pay off my educational loan.

i have to say, i charge a mere pittance compared to most freelance illustrators. most of the time its because im hazy on the rates, and im used to charging so damn rip-off cheaply for things like custom pedal artwork. like raymond and pann say, i gotta stop selling myself short.

Thursday 17 May 2007

as promised, sights from the launch-

more shots over at shoe's page, and while youre there you can lookit her gorgeous paintings. lets do it again! again, again!

Sunday 13 May 2007

thanks everybody for gracing our exhibition launch. so many people! so emo the music! so many bottles of gahmen-sponsored wine! and those who drew unspeakable things on our interactive video wall, shame on you! haha. but we like. im so massively moved that you all came. i'll put up pictures when sam sends them. the exhibition remains until the end of june, so if you havent already been, pop by the *scape youthcentre in somerset before 6pm on weekdays/saturdays. sign the guest (toilet) roll.

heres a peep at a new piece i call FEAREMO. you can see the complete FEAREMO in the art section. prints for sale on request, yo.

Tuesday 1 May 2007

guess who!

sam, meow and i filmed through the night at sam's boss' studio on friday, and then on sunday i was suddenly befallen by a strange stomach infection. revived to paint some more of my wall and then survived a brief, sweaty jam session. if i sway gently in the wind, i am not being poetic, i am sick.
